Prostate Center
The Chesapeake Urology Prostate Center for Radiation Therapy
At the Chesapeake Urology Prostate Cancer Center, we are redefining and setting the standard in radiation therapy through an unwavering commitment to quality patient care, unparalleled patient services, and advanced technology that is safe and effective.
As passionate as we are about our cancer fighting technologies, we know that treatment is only half the equation. The rest lies in human kindness, trust, compassion, and care. It is our mission to excel at both, providing you with the best chance to return to health.
Unlike other radiation therapy centers that treat various kinds of cancer, we only specialize in and focus on prostate cancer.

Advanced External Beam Radiation Therapy Technology
Technological breakthroughs bring about more powerful means for fighting medical conditions. We offer breakthrough technologies, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) that offer new hope to individuals who are battling cancer. Used alone or in conjunction, these therapies allow higher doses of radiation to be delivered with greater precision without destroying surrounding, healthy tissue.
For patients, IMRT/IGRT means:
- More effective treatment focused on cancer cells
- Less radiation exposure to normal tissue
- potentially fewer and milder side effects
- the ability to treat some tumors that couldn’t previously be treated by radiation
State-of-the-Art Technology
VARIAN HALCYON™: A New and Innovative Treatment Platform
The Prostate Center features the Varian Halcyon, a transformative new system for IG-IMRT treatment, that was designed for patient comfort and safety. We focus on strict safety rules and quality assurance protocols to provide high-quality radiation therapy care. Daily, monthly, and annual safety checks and evaluations are conducted on our equipment.
Our Team
Our center is staffed by oncologists, technicians, and administrators who bring a collaborative blend of expertise in cancer care methodologies to maximize your experience. We work closely with your referring physician to determine the best method of treatment for each patient.
Our medical staff consists of top radiation oncologists who trained at leading medical institutions in the U.S. and are certified by the American Board of Radiology and accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncologists.
Our physicists, who are PhDs and DABR-certified by the American Board of Radiology, are trained specialists who are responsible for ensuring that the optimal dose of radiation is delivered safely.
The dosimetrist is a highly trained professional who works with the radiation oncologist and physicist to develop a customized treatment plan and calculate the exact dose of radiation to fight the cancer. The dosimetrist also conducts an independent "map check" for the correct dosage on every patient's plan.
Our radiation therapists provide daily radiation treatment under the radiation oncologist's prescription and supervision. They are licensed by the State of Maryland, belong to the Society of Radiologic Technologists, and are trained to administer image-guided radiation treatment (IMRT). Additionally, they go through annual safety and quality assurance training and exams.
Safety and Quality Assurance
Patient safety is a primary concern to us. Our Prostate Center has all safeguards and systems in place and is ever-vigilant in establishing new and better practices on an ongoing basis to prevent errors and accidents and deliver safe, high-quality care. Our safety and quality assurance protocols are strictly adhered to by our medical staff for each phase of treatment including consultation, planning, pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment. We adhere to the most up-to-date guidelines established by the American Association of Physics and Medicine and to current National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) clinical practices.
