Dr. Julio Chong practices general urology and is fellowship-trained in endourology and stone disease. His specialties include the surgical treatment of large and complex kidney stones including percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), tubeless and multi-tract PCNL, and miniature percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPCNL). He specializes in minimally invasive management of upper tract urothelial carcinoma and
open and laparoscopic management of renal malignancies.

Dr. Chong completed his fellowship training in endourology and stone disease at the University of Maryland/Chesapeake Urology program. He received his medical doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He earned a double BA degree in molecular biology/biochemistry and Chinese at Middlebury College and graduated magna cum laude. While in medical school, Dr. Chong was elected into several honor societies: The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society; the Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi, and the Pathology Honor Society.

His fellowship training at the University of Maryland/Chesapeake Urology program focused on the medical and surgical management of stone disease with an emphasis on percutaneous surgical approaches to treatment and removal of large and complex stone disease. While a fellow at the University of Maryland/Chesapeake Urology, Dr. Chong performed over 300 percutaneous nephrolithotomies under the tutelage of Dr. Julio Davalos. He also presented his research at the 2019 World Congress of Endourology and his research at the Virtual American Urological Association 2020 Meeting where he earned the title of best scientific poster.

Dr. Chong has published numerous articles and book chapters, and also presented, on topics including endourologic surgery, endoscopic urology procedures, cystectomy for non-malignant bladder conditions, laser lithotripsy, male urinary incontinence, and prostate cancer.

Dr. Chong is a member of the Endourological Society, the American Urological Association, Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians.
