Ryan J. Russell, MD, MS is a urologist with Chesapeake Urology serving patients out of the Columbia office. His areas of specialty include minimally invasive urologic oncology, BPH, kidney stones, and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Russell is a fellowship-trained urologic oncologist with advanced expertise in both single-port and multi-port robotic surgery. During his Robotic Surgery & Minimally Invasive Urologic Oncology Fellowship at New Jersey Urology/Hackensack University Medical Center he completed more than 600 robotic cases in 12 months, refining single-port retroperitoneal partial nephrectomy and ureteral reconstruction, transvesical simple prostatectomy, and extraperitoneal and transvesical radical prostatectomy while also mastering complex multi-port pelvic and upper-tract oncology, including cystectomy with intracorporeal diversion.

Whether employing a nearly scar-free 2.5 cm single incision or leveraging the reach of a multi-arm platform, Dr. Russell tailors’ technique to a patient’s anatomy and goals—delivering less pain, shorter hospital stays, and durable oncologic outcomes. His research on robotic innovation appears in European Urology Oncology and The Journal of Urology and has presented at American Urological Association and Society of Urologic Oncology meetings.
