Daniel D. Dietrick, MD, FACS

About This Provider

Dr. Dietrick specializes in the treatment of prostate cancer, including da Vinci robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. In addition, his focus includes medical and minimally invasive treatment of enlarged prostate (BPH) and voiding problems in men. Dr. Dietrick also performs the UroLift procedure for the treatment of BPH/enlarged prostate.

His interest in cancer treatment began in the 1980s with work at the National Cancer Institute and continued through his years on the clinical faculty of Stanford Medical Center and the Johns Hopkins University Department of Urology. Dr. Dietrick performed the first da Vinci robotic prostatectomy at a community hospital in Maryland in 2005 and has performed approximately 1,000 successful operations since then, more than any other community urologist in Maryland. Dr. Dietrick performed traditional open prostatectomies for 15 years prior to this.

Dr. Dietrick served as Prostate Chair of the Maryland Chapter of the American Cancer Society, was awarded one of the first Young Leaders in Urology awards of the American Urological Association, and is a member of the American Association of Physician Leaders. He served as Chief of the Department of Surgery, St. Joseph Medical Center for 8 years and is now the President of the Medical Staff. In addition, he has led and served on many quality improvement teams, medical boards, and executive boards at several local hospitals.

In 2010, he was inducted into The Healing Hands Guild of the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. The Guild honors physicians who excel in their clinical skills and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellent and compassionate care. Dr. Dietrick has also been selected as a Super Doctor in The Washington Post magazine in 2011, 2012, and 2013 and a “Top Doctor” in Baltimore magazine, 2017 and 2021.

He was named the Chief Value Officer at Chesapeake Urology in 2016, a newly created senior position that is unique among urology groups in the nation. In this position, he will work to develop policies and procedures that produce high-quality, cost-effective, medical care with measurable outcomes.
