The Continence Center, Andrew M. Diagnostic Techniques Offered at The Continence Center

• Voiding Questionnaire and Diary: Provides pertinent information regarding behavioral characteristics and voiding patterns.
• Urinalysis & Urine Culture: Determines any existing abnormalities such as urinary tract infections, blood in your urine and early detection of damage to your kidneys.
• Radiological Studies: Identifies the presence of abnormalities by X-raying the genitourinary tract.
• Uroflow: Measures the flow of the urine stream and helps assess the ability of the bladder to empty.
• Bladder Scan: Non-invasive ultrasound test that assesses the ability of the bladder to empty.
• Cystoscopy: Utilization of a small telescope to look inside the bladder. This is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that lasts less than five minutes. It allows us to assess your bladder for stones, tumors, signs of obstruction or other abnormalities that may cause your symptoms.
• Urodynamics: An outpatient procedure that involves placing a small catheter into the bladder and another catheter into the rectum. Bladder pressure is measured as the bladder is filled and emptied. This minimally invasive test helps to determine the cause of your symptoms and allows us to recommend the appropriate therapy for each individual. We offer state-of-the-art equipment with the highest diagnostic accuracy.

The Continence Center achieved dual accreditation in 2022 as a Center of Excellence in Continence Care for Women, recognized for providing the highest quality of care and patient safety by the Surgical Review Corporation and the National Association for Continence.

Status as an accredited facility means that The Continence Center, Andrew M. Shapiro Center of Excellence, Chesapeake Urology has met nationally recognized standards. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation and not all that undergo the rigorous requirements and inspection process are granted accreditation.
