About This Provider

Dr. Brenton Winship practices general urology and is fellowship-trained in endourology. His clinical interests focus on the minimally invasive management of urologic diseases, including procedures for kidney stones such as shock wave lithotripsy, percutaneous, and ureteroscopic stone removal, as well as laparoscopic and robotic surgery for urologic cancers. For patients with kidney stones, Dr. Winship’s goal is to help patients prevent kidney stone recurrence. He works closely with patients to determine the causes of their kidney stones to develop the best preventative plan to help them become stone-free.

Dr. Winship completed his fellowship training in endourology at the prestigious Duke University Kidney Stone Center, where he participated in research for laser lithotripsy, shock wave lithotripsy, and urologic imaging and metabolic evaluation for recurrent nepyrolithiasis.

He received his medical doctorate from Emory University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at The George Washington University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology, cum laude, at Davidson College. While at Emory University, Dr. Winship tutored students from South Atlanta High School on topics in medicine and science as part of a special program to promote graduation, higher education, and achievement of high personal goals.

During his fellowship training at the Duke University Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center, Dr. Winship conducted research in laser lithotripsy, shock wave lithotripsy, urologic imaging, metabolic evaluation for recurrent nephrolithiasis. He also participated in research focused on the use of narrow band imaging for bladder cancers, DVT prophylaxis for urologic surgery and staging of small renal tumors following partial nephrectomy at George Washington University, Department of Urology, and did research in appropriate pre-operative imaging for donor kidney recipients at Emory University School of Medicine, Emory Transplant Center.

Dr. Winship has published numerous articles and book chapters, and also presented, on topics including endourologic surgery, ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy, ureteroscopy care, holmium lasers, dietary management for kidney stones, new laser lithotripsy technologies for the treatment of kidney stones, renal cell cancer, and hypospadias repair.
